AUGUST TOWN continue to be the surprise package of this season's Red Stripe Champions Cup as they pounded struggling Wadadah 4-0 in first leg quarter final action at the University of the West Indies field yesterday.
Ross Burton rose high to head powerfully into the back of the net, giving the home team a lead they deserved in the 39th minute. August Town continued to pile on the pressure in the second half with their efforts spearheaded by front man Carlos Barrett who constantly proved to be a bit more than the Wadadah backline could handle.
Major part
The tricky player had a major part in the hosts' second goal as he was brought down just in the area when he spun away from a defender. Stepping up to the spot, schoolboy football standout Tremaine Stewart gave Wadadah custodian Leighton Murray no chance as he blasted his 58th minute penalty high into the back of the net.
Burton, the beneficiary of a cross from Barrett, did not control cleanly the first time but, loosely marked, he had enough time to rocket past Murray for Wadadah's third in the 72nd minute.
Zeicko Herrera finished things off with a goal in the 84th minute. The teams will meet for the second leg next Thursday.
