published: Saturday | March 10, 2007

Glenmuir High, rural high school table tennis champions from 2003-2005 before losing it to St Mary High last year, regained the title on Thursday at the rural finals of the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association ( ISSA) competition at Manchester High. They edged defending champions St Mary High 3-2 in the last match of the round-robin finals.

On the boys side, defending champions St Mary High made it three straight as they trounced first-time finalists Belair High 4-1 in the final.

St. Mary High girls edged Manchester 3-2 and defeated Titchfield 3-1 to advance to the final against Glenmuir who blanked both Manchester and Titchfield by similar 3-0 scores to reach the final.

The seven boys teams were divided into two groups and St Mary handed 5-0 whippings to both Titchfield and Guy's Hill to top group one and qualify for the final. Belair blanked St. Thomas 5-0, crushed Dinthill 4-1 and clipped Manchester 3-2 to reach the final from group two.

In the boys play-off for the third place between second-place group finishers, Manchester blanked Guy's Hill 5-0 while on the girls side, Manchester nipped Titchfield 3-2 for the girls third place trophies.
