When the Open Bible Standard Churches commence their 58th annual general conference and convention today they will have as guest speaker, Bishop Delford Davis, senior pastor of the Portmore-based, Power of Faith Ministries International.Bishop Davis, who is also the president of the Jamaica Association of Full Gospel Churches,a Pentecostal grouping of congregations, will be addressing the conference under theme 'Returning to Our Spiritual Heritage'.
Speaking with The Gleaner, Bishop Davis, said many Christians in general, and Pentecostal believers in particular, have indeed departed from their spiritual heritage. He said soul searching was needed within the Christian community to understand why believers have strayed.
Cable channels
Bishop Davis, who leads a congregation of more than 2,000 members, became a minister of religion in 1977, and was ordained to the bishopric in 1996. His teaching ministry is broadcast on various cable networks. In addition, he operates two 24-hour cable channels, one in St. Catherine and the other in Manchester.
A much sought after preacher, Bishop Davis, believes that Pentecostal witness is on the incline in Jamaica and that there has been noticeable nume-rical growth in size of many Pentecostal congregations. He credits the Open Bible churches for some of this growth in Pentecostal witness through their commitment to evangelism, discipleship and doctrinal instruction.
