Campionites from far and wide descended on the Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Thursday evening for the Alumni Association's Hall of Fame dinner.

Past students and teachers caught up on old times, remembering the good times, they had within the campus walls and filling each other in on what they have been up to these days. Four distinguished past students were added to the Hall of Fame this year. Businessmen Paul Hoo and Chris Zacca, Dr. Sean Ramprashad and motor racer David Summerbell Jr.

In the principal's report, Grace Baston highlighted the achievements in the last Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Advanced Level examinations. Campion College students received 33 awards for finishing first, second or third in various subject areas. The school also finished on top in both categories.

Another distinguished old boy, guest speaker Joey Issa, seemed almost at a loss for words at the start as he looked out at all the classmates and friends he had at the institution. He jokingly remembered some of his old teachers (and the lengthy homework they used to give) and also the impact they, and the institution overall, had on his life.

Campion in Ocho Rios

"I hope they build a Campion College in Ocho Rios in 10 years' time because I don't want to have to move back to Kingston when my daughter reaches 11," he said.

But his speech took on a more serious tone as he focused on the state that Jamaica was now in. While mentioning the various areas of development, including highways, the boost from cricket and the increase in telecommunication choices, he questioned how far we had really come. He challenged the major parties about what they needed to do to get his and other members of the electorate's vote. He pointed to security, health and education as the areas that had to be addressed.

"I hope that we, too, as sons and daughters of the soil, will play our part in making a significant change and strive in carrying out the (school's) motto ... Steadfast in faith and work," he said.

Guests at this nostalgic affair included: Ian and Cecelia Levy, Don and Ayesha Creary, Howard Chin, Steven Hudson, Karen Martin, Kevin Hendrickson, Brian George, Chris Binnie, Julian Robinson, president of the alumni association Chad Cunningham, Charles Heholt, Suzanne Taylor, Sharda Spence, Alando Terrelonge, Michael Edwards, former principals John MacKay and Radley Reid, Kamal Bankay, Chris Issa, long-serving faculty members Cynthia Allen-Pearson and Melanie Green, as well as recent past students, including Ankita Kulkarni.
