Fashion designers flew in courtesy of Virgin Nigeria and Air Jamaica from Africa and the Caribbean, to show their collections at the Coronet Theatre, London, in the Africa JamFest fashion gala produced by Theo Omambala.
The gala was awash with colour, couture and quirky collections, where the colourful designs of Jamaica's Minka brought a breath of fresh air with an unconventional edge to the show. Tanya Cameron's Shades of Africa collection representing the Caribbean was outstanding, while haute couture designer Kosibah, representing Nigeria, upped the 'glam factor'.
Mutamba by Jackie Cohen, representing Jamaica, brought a feminine touch to the show with her trademark floaty pieces. Uganda and Congo were represented by Regina Piloya and Lilianne Malemo respectively. Contemporary casuals were from Makushi Jeans by Mary Shittu were well received. Africa JamFest will return to Jamaica in 2007.
