THE EDITOR, Sir:
AS A Jamaican who migrated to Britain in 1990 and became a British citizen five years after, I haven't lost my Jamaicanness. One of my greatest memories about Jamaica is life on the farm as a child, right up to age 35.
I was a small farmer before I migrated to Britain. The late Prime Minister of Jamaica, Michael Manley, once said that small farming is the backbone of Jamaica. He also said you have to know the past to understand the present.
Without a balance in shaping the world, we are all doomed to failure. When the world remembers and appreciates where it is coming from, we will be better able to shape the present which will help us to determine the future.
The Government of Jamaica must remember the small farmers of Jamaica whose main skill is to till the soil to make a living.
I am, etc.,
