Stewart completes indoor sprint double

World Junior sprint relay gold medallist Kerron Stewart and national 400m champion Ricardo Chambers came away big winners at Saturday night's NCAA National Indoor track & field Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Arkansas.

Florida State's Chambers, who ran 45.64 in the preliminary round on Friday night, returned Saturday to take the men's 400m final in 45.65 seconds ahead of Aaron Buzard of Minnesota (45.86).

In the women's 60m event, Stewart, representing Auburn, won with an impressive 7.15 seconds to add to her 200m victory of 22.58 achieved on Friday night.

Courtney Champion of Tennessee (7.19) and Kelly Ann Baptiste of LSU (7.27) were second and third, respectively, while former Vere athlete Simone Facey, now at Texas A&M, was seventh in 7.34 seconds.

Shaun Smith of Oral Roberts (1:50.41) was seventh in the men's 800m event, won by Ryan Brown Washington (1:48.40).

Decosma Wright and Davita Prendergast, both Lincoln, were winners at NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in Boston.

Wright of Lincoln won the 60m hurdles in 7.78 while Pete Smith of Lincoln was fourth in 8.08.

Prendergast won the 200m in 23.56 and collected second in the 400m (53.85).

Wilbert Walker of Lincoln (15.88m) was second in the men's triple jump behind Vladyslav Gorbenko of Abilene Christian (16.23m). Walker did 7.45m for third in the long jump.

At the Indoor Track & Field National Championships held in Johnson City, Tennessee, former Jamaica Junior athlete Nikeisha Anderson was a double winner.

Anderson, representing Missouri Baptist, won the 60m dash in 7.48 seconds and 200m in 23.59.

Anna-Kay Campbell of Linden-wood (5.98m) was second in the women's long jump, behind Ruky Abdulai of Simon Fraser (6.32m).

Latoya Heath, also of Lindenwood, was third in the women's triple jump with a leap 12.10m behind Sarah Ensslen Cedarville University (12.29m) and Caroline Oladipo of Wayland Baptist (12.23m).

Two-time World Junior 400m bronze medallist Sherene Pinnock, representing Oklahoma Baptist, was a second-place finisher inthe women's 400m, running 54.95 behind Mayers (54.59).

Pinnock was also a member of her school's 4x800m team, which won in 9:06.52 and the 4x400m team, which finished second in 3:44.16 behind Wayland Baptist University (3:42.95).

Former Camperdown athlete Orion Nicely of McKendree College was second in the men's 600m and 200m races in 6.80 and 21.57, beaten on both occasions by Mike Rodgers of Lindenwood 6.69 and 21.91, respectively.
