Relegation threatened August Town continued their splendid run of good form when they got by hosts Boys' Town 2-1, as Wray and Nephew National Premier League action resumed at the Collie Smith Drive yesterday.

In-form striker Carlos Barrett opened the scoring for August Town in spectacular fashion in the 49th minute. Flashing into the area to meet a corner swung across goal, the speedy striker connected mid-air to sidefoot his attempt over the head of Boys' Town custodian Philmore Crumbie.

Barrett, who had also scored earlier in the week for the club in a Red Stripe Cup rout of Village United, should certainly have put the visitors further ahead when he sprinted away from the Boys' Town back line, but his shot was kept out by goalkeeper Crumbie.

Resilient Boys' Town

A resilient Boys' Town would then reduce the deficit through their target man Denzil Watson. Watson would gently nod into the back of the net from almost the goal line,following excellent work from midfielder Michael Campbell who broke to the byline before furnishing an excellent 72nd-minute cross.

However, with Boys' Town in full flight after netting the equaliser, August Town would steal all three points against the run of play. After receiving a well-weighted pass from midfielder Tremaine Stewart, Daniel Shaw sprinted down the right flank to square across goal. The delivery ended up at the feet of Barrett who eluded his marker before rolling the ball into the path of Ross Burton who then blasted past Crumbie from five yards in the 83rd minute.

"It's a very good way to start the third round but I wasn't pleased with everything," said August Town coach Hugh McCarthy.

"We panicked after scoring the second goal," he added.

Disappointed coach

Boys' Town coach Andrew Price was disappointed with the loss, especially after a string of solid performances for his team heading into the end of the second round.

" This was a very disappointing performance, we did not track, we were lethargic and we just didn't play the type of game that would have given us a win today," he said.

Price speculated that perhaps the team was weary after too much football recently.

"We have been playing a lot of games recently, perhaps we are a bit tired but I just did not see the effort out there today," he went on.

The win saw August Town move a bit further away from the drop zone, joining Seba on 25 points while Boys, Town remain in eighth place on 27 points.
