THE EDITOR, Sir:
Recently in the Manor Park area, the quick thinking and decisive action by Messers Daniel Dawkins and Lester Simpson, operators of a cesspool truck, averted what could have been a terrible disaster. These gentlemen must be commended for action worthy of national recogniton for gallantry.
Questions need to be answered however: How did the fire start and what sort of fire-fighting facilities and training do gas station staffs have.
It may worth the while of the insurance companies to work in conjunction with the Fire Department and other suppliers of fire-fighting equipment to conduct training seminars for personnel from hotels, gas stations, and warehouses, etc. There needs to be a structured programme for the Fire Department to inspect industrial/ commercial premises. I strongly suspect we could save hundreds of millions of dollars of fire damage by spending some money on public education in the area of safety and fire prevention.
I am, etc.,
