THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WRITE to you to inform you of just how serious our Government is when they say that all children should receive quality education from the earliest stage of their lives, moreso children enrolled in our early childhood institutions.
I am currently employed within this sector and studying to receive a degree in early childhood education. The twist of this story, though, is that after completing my studies in September, I will be unemployed. You see Sir, the Government will not have more than one trained teacher at any basic school. I have been employed at my school for over 12 years and it is sad to say that not even that matters.
How is it that the sector will function at its fullest potential when it will forever be replacing trained, qualified and competent persons with persons who are starting from scratch? Why bother to get trained if at the end you will not have a job? It can take two, three or even more months to get a job; what are persons to do within this time period when they have bills to pay and children to send to school?
I am, etc.,
