Miss Jamaca contestant, Tiffany Smile
published: Thursday | March 15, 2007

Tiffany Smile - Winston Sill/Freelance Photographer

Age: 24

Height: 5' 8 1/2"

Occupation: Real estate agent

Sponsor: Ms. Crichton Automotive Ltd.

Vital statistics: 34-26-34.

Why did you decide to enter the competition?

"I saw it as an opportunity to really stand out as an ambassador for Jamaica I won a previous title as Miss Jamaica USA 2004, when I heard about this I said I was definitely going to do it because it would be such a fulfilling experience to be here."

How do you plan to improve Jamaica's chances at Miss Universe?

"Well I think I have the charisma, poise and confidence to carry Miss Jamaica to the top. I really strive in having a lot of prospect in keeping the country's motto and the country's principle's in hand, while also being up to date on current events and keeping myself educated all along the way."

How do you plan to use your entry in the contest to boost 'Brand Jamaica' locally and internationally?

"Well currently as Miss Crichton Automotive, I'm collaborating with him to start with that. I'm also starting to work with the Jamaica Red Cross to start really looking at HIV testing in the country. I always stand as a Jamaican everywhere I go, that's what I tell people I know. Wherever I am, I'm a Jamaican, that's my first step on the international level."

What will your platform be if you win the pageant?

"What I'd like to do is collaborate with churches and the Jamaican Red Cross to promote HIV testing, I find that 80 per cent of Jamaicans go to church and it's the one place where people get spiritual wellness and I think if we can start looking at taking responsibility for health, we can really start to make a difference. 'Cause no matter what people are doing Monday through Friday, Saturday and Sunday they are going to church."

How does the Miss Jamaica Universe pageant promote the role of women in society?

"Well I think we stand as beautiful women who have a real stand for a mission, some form of goal. We stand as real ambassadors to many other countries, we're looked upon highly and we're given the tools and resources to really make a difference and I think that's what really ends up happening at the end of the day. I like to think of it as a mix of beauty and intelligence."

How have you benefited so far from the preparations you have received during the pageant?

"This has been wonderful, the grooming classes and speech and voice work have been truly helpful. We've worked a lot on our projection and diction. It helps us even when we're speaking outside of the pageant; it's life long lessons. Learning how to walk is very important and we just keep practising everyday. It's great 'cause we really see as a team we see everyone improving on a daily basis. It's motivating because you really want to help each other, even though one girl is going to win we can all take it back home."

What are some of your interests?

"Well I love to dance, I used to be a classical ballet dancer for 14 years. I love politics, I love watching debates and keeping up on international politics. I love food in the sense that I love cooking shows and travelling of course."
