A woman accused with killing her common-law husband and dumping his body in a pit latrine was again remanded when she appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court this week, charged with non-capital murder.

When Angella Wilson appeared before the court on Monday, her lawyer, Peter Champagnie, said that, despite the gruesome nature of the allegations outlined against her, the court should consider bail as his client had been in custody since November 26. He argued that the Crown's case has assisted that of the defence, as it had been put to his client that the deceased, Charles Patterson, was killed during a fight between the accused and himself. He said his client would not be a flight risk and would be safe as she would be living elsewhere if granted bail.

Clerk of court, Annmarie Jordan, objected to the granting of bail, arguing that Wilson had committed a gruesome act and noted that it was four days after Patterson went missing and family members became concerned, having being told by Wilson that he was at work, that the body was found minus at least one limb. She said the question of bail should not be entertained.

"Your honour, her safety must be of great concern and persons connected to the deceased have uttered threats to do her bodily harm. She is safer in custody," Ms. Jordan said.

Wilson was subsequently remanded until April 13 when the case will again be mentioned, by which time the attorney said he hoped outstanding statements would be collected to complete the file.
