There was beauty, fashion and sex appeal at the first of Pulse's 'Rock the World' Best of the Best series, held at One Love Jamaica Village, Cable and Wireless Golf Academy, New Kingston on Wednesday.

The beauties were up first, that is after emcee, comedienne Elva, who was assisted by Fran?ois St. Juste of FAME FM, announced she was bringing sexy back. With that, she exited for the Miss Jamaica Universe contestants to take over.

Modelling swimsuits and promoting their sponsors, the ladies moved with poise and grace across the stage, smiling as each tried to convince the crowd she was to be title holder.

After the beauties made their appearance, the designers made their entrance, displaying their designs, previews for this year's Caribbean FashionWeek modelled by Pulse's world-class models.

First designs

Lubica's crochet designs were the first to appear, and they were a hit. From bikinis, to spaghetti tops, to dresses, there was no limit to creations handmade from European yarns. One outfit was a black, sheer, strapless top emdrodried with red, gold and green at the top. This was outfitted with a skirt, blue jeans at the front, while the back was black crochet with a stripe of rasta colours in the middle. Other styles included cool tops worn with slacks.

K-Bobby Couture by Kenneth K-Bobby Edgar were cutting-edge designs for women and men. His styles included a bandana suit lap skirt and halter top. This finished nicely with a long, white bead necklace. The men's fashion was more conservative with earth tones and comfortable styles. Most included slacks with casual, light materials.

Colourful collection

Kevin Pound took a walk on the colourful side on Wednesday. The collection began with an orange and red plaid pair of shorts topped by an orange T-shirt with slippers. Up next was an orange three-quarter pants worn with a white shirt with orange on the collar and sleeves. A teal pants and teal and grey striped shirt was also among the collection. His signature extraordinary denim designs were, as expected, the highlight of the set. Among them was a blue plaid jacket, with white at the collar and pockets, fitted with white pants.

Neah Lis' designs are done with a touch of the orient and many colours. There was a strapless dress with geometric colours of red, green and yellow, adorned with a black strip at the tip with another below the bust, ending in a bow.

Her styles were silky, coloured prints, all dresses, which she says are for the full-figured woman, though Elva was the only "three piece with fries and large pepsi" beauty on stage.
