The Editor, Sir:
I am writing to thank you for the lovely refreshing feature that Robert Lalah wrote on Guanaboa Vale, St. Catherine. I am surprised to see that the post office is still standing; it was built before I was born, even before my mum was born. The shop next door to it I remember well. Where the gas pumps are, there used to be a market every Saturday, and also a meat shop. There was a gentleman by the name of Herman Walters who used to sell fresh meat.
Guanaboa Vale was the place to be when I was a teenager. I went to school there, which was adjacent to the church. I left Jamaica in 1958, and have been back a few times, the last time being last June with my sister. We visited Guanaboa Vale churchyard to visit our grandparents' grave.
When I saw The Gleaner on March 5, it brought back a lot of memories.
I am, etc.,
