In what was possibly the shortest wedding ceremonies ever attended by The Gleaner, Joel Scales took Dr. Aisha Lofters to be his wedded wife at the Ruins, Ocho Rios, on Saturday, March 11, before an audience of family and friends and the lulling beat of the Ruins' waterfalls in the backdrop.
The ceremony got under way approximately 30 minutes after the slated 4:00 p.m. start, and when it did, it was not long before the officiating minister, Rev. Stotrell Lowe, had already instructed, "You may kiss the bride!"
Newly-weds Mr. and Mrs. Joel Scales did what was customary and went off with their designated photographer to capture the memories of their special day in the beautiful setting of the Ruins. Meanwhile, guests enjoyed cocktails and listened to the musical mastery of Caribbean Melody Band, before heading upstairs for the reception which was to follow.
Dr. Aisha Lofters is a family physician based in Toronto. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Wycliffe Lofters. Joel Scales of Minnesota, U.S.A., is a market research manager for Procter and Gamble, and is the son of John and Mary Scales.
The maid of honour was Josina Sibblies, and bridesmaids were Renee Thomas, Dr. Dorothy Graham and Claudene Hutchinson.
The best men were David Scales and Reginald Brewington Jr., and groomsmen Dr. Chad Zooker and Dr. Steven Lofters.
Jacqui Stephens of Exquisite Occasions Ltd. managed the logistics of the wedding, including decorations which followed the bride's requested 'tropical' theme, and planning for the reception.
Among the guests were: Prime Minister of Jamaica The Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller and her husband The Most Hon. Errald Miller; Hon. Robert Pickersgill, Minister of Transport; Brenda and Fred Cuthbert; UWI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nigel Harris and his wife Yvette; John Cooke; Cynthia and Carl McBean; Cecil Aird; Wayne and Jean Lawrence; Karl and Yvette Jenkins; Jerome Spencer and Marcia Forbes; Jason Bough; Louis and Marjorie Stephenson; Langston Sibblies and Deborah Webb; Dawn and Oscar Lofters; Jodi Elliston and Maurice Watson, and Zakiya Lofters.
