KC, Belair to meet in final
published: Friday | March 16, 2007

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

KINGSTON COLLEGE (KC) and Belair Academy will contest this year's all-island final of the Inter-Secondary Schools Association/KFC Under-19 basketball competition following semi-final victories yesterday.

KC defeated Manchester High 59-50 at the National Stadium while Belair edged Wolmer's 52-51 at the Nazarine Centre.

Justin Day led the way for Belair with a game-high 24 points and received good support from Neveij Walter who recorded 13 points and 20 rebounds. Arnold Blake, 16 points and 22 rebounds, was the top performer for Wolmer's.

KC, led by captain Omari Green game-high 21 points and 16 rebounds, dominated their game from the opening whistle and took a 31-20 lead into the half-time break. The North Street school extended the lead to 15 points to end of the third period at 45-30.

However, Manchester High centre Chadwick Wynter scored six straight unanswered points at the start of the fourth quarter, which forced KC's coach, Chris Meikle, to call a time out.

KC then rallied strongly for the victory. Green was well supported by Kemroy Cameron (15 points, seven rebounds and seven steals) and Dale Gayle (13 points).

Wynter finished the game with 14 points and eight rebounds and received good support from Jaedon Lowe (11 points and 18 rebounds).

Meikle said he was pleased with his team's performance.

"The guys really displayed a good amount of energy today. They came out and they did what they were supposed to do," said Meikle.

"They played a defensive game asthey were told an Manchester had a big team that showed a lot of muscle, our guys executed well, they played defence - which is our strong point - and they passed the ball around well," he said.
