Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine: An investigation has been launched by the Spanish Town police into a shooting in the Old Capital?s bus park which left scores of commuters scrambling for cover yesterday.
It is reported that about 9:30
yesterday morning, several shots were heard in the vicinity of the old train station, setting off chaos with persons running in every direction. The shooting occurred during peak hours when commuters were traveling to Kingston and other locations.
It is believed the shots were fired by persons affiliated with the Clansman gang.
According to Superintendent of Police in charge of St. Catherine North, Harry Daley, the shooting resulted from an internal feud in which men affiliated with the gang have been in disagreement about the sharing of money.
Up to late morning the police, led by Supt. Daley, were still trying to quell the warring factions. Several persons who spoke with The Gleaner said they hoped the shooting was not a sign that things would soon be getting worse. The Old Capital, a perennial hot spot of violence, has been relatively peaceful in recent months.
