The Editor, Sir:
Jamaicans have been asked to give their support to Cricket World Cup activities, even if it means the most ridiculous of inconveniences such as restrictions in and out of our community.
But there is one gross injustice being meted out to some Jamaicans in the Corporate Area over the past week. I speak of none other than the One Love Village and the Noise Abatement Act. My family and I more than a hundred metres away had to endure the stage show on our windows, in our living rooms, in our beds every night for days.
Generally unhappy
We are used to concerts and stage shows in the area and I admit that we are generally unhappy when we get wind of those events. But never has the noise been so intrusive, abrasive and ridiculous. Never were we unable to watch our own television or forced to shout to have a conversation. Why couldn?t they keep the volume similar to other mega events that occur on an ongoing basis ? events that were even closer to our apartment? Or are the World Cup activities beyond the law?
The only redeeming development in all this is that 20 minutes or so after I reported the matter to the police, the volume was turned down.
I am, etc.,
