Harbour View turn tables on Tivoli
published: Monday | March 19, 2007

Howard Walker, Staff Reporter

It was sweet revenge for Harbour View after they whipped Tivoli Gardens 3-1 in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) game at the Edward Seaga Stadium yesterday.

On Wednesday, Tivoli Gardens knocked Harbour View out of the all-island Red Stripe Champions Cup, but had no answer to the league leaders in yesterday?s match-up.

Harbour View?s defender Christopher Harvey rammed home the opener in the 10th minute from a corner kick after Fabian Davis miskicked.

The hard working Jermaine Taylor equalised for the the home team in the 49th minute, but two goals in three minutes by Harbour View killed off the contest.

Beautiful volley

In the 55th minute, Kemeel Wolfe beautifully volleyed home a Lovel Palmer left-sided cross before Fabian Taylor, in the 58th minute, scored a curling shot from just inside the box.

Harbour View with their 16th win from 24 games move to 53 points to remain top of the NPL standings with nine rounds to go.

Winning coach, Lenworth Hyde Sr., said his team stuck to the game plan and played a well organised game.

Said Hyde: ?When you playing the Tivoli team you have to control the flanks because (Christopher) Jackson and (Oraine) Simpson have good legs and are very speedy. We did that well today?.

He continued: ?We asked for intensity in the second half and the players came out and gave me that. We played well and it was a good game for us.?

Retain fifth position

Tivoli Gardens remain in fifth position on 34 points and all but concedes any hope of mounting a serious challenge for the title.

Tivoli Gardens? coach Calvert Fitzgerald said his team didn?t turn up to play.

?I don?t think we had a particularly good game today. The players seem to lack some motivation.

?We didn?t play with the intensity that we normally play with. Harbour View looked the hungrier team today and they deserved that victory,? said Fitzgerald.

In the Under 21 competition, Tivoli Gardens held Harbour View to a 1-1 draw. National invitee Mitchily Waul gave Harbour View a 77th minute lead before Navion Boyd equalised in the 86th minute.
