Politicians should follow suit
published: Wednesday | March 21, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

Many persons think Miss Sara Lawrence has failed as a role model, but I think not. Miss Lawrence entered into a contract to perform certain functions. The moment she realised that she was in breach, she stood up and accepted responsibility for her actions, apologised for failing to meet her commitments and has stepped down.

Our politicians and elected government officials need to take note. If only they could behave in like manner when they fall back on promises made to the electorate or when they breach a contract or fail in their commitments to us. If only they would stand up and take responsibility before a scandal erupts and damages the integrity of their office, we would be in a far better state in this country.

I am, etc.,

MARIE JOSEPH
