Garwin Davis, Gleaner WriterGeneral Secretary of the People's National Party (PNP), Donald Buchanan, admitted yesterday that his party will no longer be able to announce its full slate of candidates by March 25 due to happenings in South East St. Ann.
According to Mr. Buchanan, the PNP will not be able to sign off on a candidate for South East St. Ann by the promised date and therefore will have to renege on an earlier commitment it had given to party supporters.
"I know I have given the commitment that all 60 candidates will be in place by March 25 but this will no longer be the case," Mr. Buchanan said. "We are yet to sign off on a candidate for South East St. Ann and we certainly will not be ready by next week."
Pressed on what was delaying the process, the PNP general secretary said: "We have a situation where four persons are vying for the seat with each of them on equal footing. There is no clear front-runner, which is why we have to take our time to ensure the process is fair."
