POLICE NATIONAL strengthened their quest for a place in the National Premier League playoffs with a 2-1 victory over hosts Duhaney Park in the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA)/Jamaica National (JN) Super League at the weekend.

With three matches remaining in the season, Police National lead the standings with 42 points, three more than second-placed Meadhaven United who defeated third-placed Jamaica Defence Force (37) 3-0.

In other games, fourth-placed Cavalier (29) whipped Maverley/ Hughenden 5-0, Santos (27) beat Constant Spring 2-1, Greenwich Town (17) edged bottom side Barbican (11) 2-1 and Bull Bay (25) got by Mountain View (19) 3-0.

At Excelsior High, Kemel Mullings gave Bull Bay the lead in the 22nd minute when he fired home a powerful, point-blank shot past goalkeeper Damion Murphy. Dennis Brown doubled Bull Bay's lead on the stroke of halftime when he dribbled his way past three Mountain View defenders then calmly rolled the ball past Murphy and into the net.

Bull Bay dominated the second period and were rewarded in the 83rd minute when substitute Jermaine Edwards fired home a well-placed cross from Andre Nelson for the team's third goal.

Barrington Gaynor, player/coach of Bull Bay, was pleased with his team's performance.

"I am satisfied with this result today (Saturday). We have been giving up goals almost every game and today we had a shutout and we scored three goals," said Gaynor. "Normally, right throughout the season, we manage to score one goal per game so it's a great day for us because we did not concede any goals and we scored three," he said.

"The plan for the remainder of the season is to finish as high in the table as possible and we are aiming for either third or fourth place," said Gaynor, who is also the coach of National Premier League outfit Waterhouse.
