Irishman found dead
published: Thursday | March 22, 2007

An Irish visitor to the island was yesterday found dead in his hotel room at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.

According to the police, the body of 67-year-old Robert Kerr, former president of the Irish Cricket Union and one of several visitors in the island for Cricket World Cup, was discovered around 6:30 a.m.

Mr. Kerr, who was said to be hypertensive and had heart problems, reportedly complained of chest pains before going to bed late Tuesday night.

Wife found him

The police said his wife found him dead in bed when she woke up.

In a statement yesterday, the Sunset Jamaica Grande said: "It is with profound sadness that we learned of the untimely death of a 67-year-old male fan and supporter of the Irish cricket team."

The hotel noted that, as standard hotel procedure, local paramedics and police were immediately notified of the incident.

"The man was found unresponsive and was then taken to St. Ann's Bay Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The British High Commission has been notified," the hotel said.

Police have ruled out foul play.
