THE EDITOR, Sir:
After reading the letter published February 17, 2007, from Mrs. Jill Auger-Alexander, we also would like to add something to this. We have been coming here for 17 years for a portion of February and March to enjoy your warm weather and your beaches, and spent a considerable amount of money here. We Canadians appreciate this warm weather break from our cold winters. However, we feel that we are being treated as second class tourists when it comes to beach usage. We are forced to use only a small part of the beach so the cruise ship passengers have the use of the better part of it. We note that these people are treated to food and drink, given comfortable chairs and tents for shelter.
We have rented apartments at Turtle and Fisherman's Point and are now blasted with loud music until 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. - it is not conducive to good sleeping.
Tourism brings much money to Jamaica and as the saying goes, 'It is your bread and butter'. I am afraid much will be lost if tourists who come for extended periods or anytime continue to be treated badly. They will soon find some place else to go.
We are, etc.,
