Petrina Francis, Staff ReporterA female teacher at the Kingston Technical High School along Hanover Street, downtown Kingston, was left traumatised yesterday after several boys reportedly harassed her.
Another teacher at the school, who requested anonymity, told The Gleaner the educator went to a class but, when she got there, most of the students did not turn up.
"The boys who were in the classroom asked her what if the rain started to fall and she couldn't leave, what would happen," the teacher said.
Attempted to leave
At this point, the teacher reportedly became uncomfortable and attempted to leave the classroom.
"One of the boys then held his hand around her while another put his hand around her waist," the teacher describing the incident said.
She struggled and freed herself from the boys and left the classroom.
The source told The Gleaner that the teacher, who eventually locked herself in the bathroom and cried, had for sometime been complaining about the boys, indicating that she was afraid of them.
"This is really bad and I don't wish it to be taken lightly," the teacher said.
When The Gleaner visited the institution yesterday, other teachers were tight-lipped about the incident, but some were visibly upset and outraged.
The vice-principal of the school, Robert Allen, denied knowledge of the incident.
However, five minutes after The Gleaner spoke with him, teachers were hurriedly called to a meeting.
Meanwhile, the teacher with whom The Gleaner spoke also noted that a boy kicked a male teacher and hit him with a bottle. That matter was being dealt with by the vice-principal when The Gleaner news team visited the institution.
