ST. ELIZABETH Technical (STETHS) yesterday secured first innings honours against Garvey Maceo at Alpart and a berth in the ISSA/Grace Headley Cup final. Resuming the semi-final at 218 for seven, the star of the first day, Nickoy Samuels, carried his bat to 117 before he was last man out as STETHS were dismissed for 247 after 56 minutes of play.
The protracted end to the innings seemed to knock the wind out of Garvey Maceo who, perhaps ill-advisedly, had inserted STETHS the previous day, especially with the forecast of showers each afternoon.
They were eventually all out for an unconvincing 85 and probably saved from further anguish when rain stopped play mid-afternoon with STETHS on eight without loss in their second innings.
New champions will be crowned as STETHS will meet first-time finalists Godfrey Stewart, who dethroned the champions of the past three years - Holmwood, from March 26-28.
