The University Singers will present its first-ever Easter Sunday concert on April 8. The concert, titled 'This Eastertide - a programme of Sacred Vocal Music', will be under the patronage of Vice Chancellor Professor E. Nigel Harris and Mrs. Harris. Scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. at the University Chapel, UWI, Mona, the programme will feature past and present soloists of the University Singers, presenting popular sacred solos and Negro spirituals.

Dr. Lucette Cargill - soprano, singing Handel and Gounod, and Dr. WinstonDavidson - bass, singing Handel, will be headlining the list of featured soloists. Other soloists include sopranos Carolyn Reid, Shawna-Gaye Turner, Ellan Edwards, Rochelle Brooks and Tina Mowatt; contraltos Jhana Williams, Dr. Katherine Brown, and Monique Sloley. Featured male voices include tenors Roy Thompson and Warren A. Thompson; and baritones Djenne Greaves, Dr. Domnick Frazer, Dr. Murphey Osbourne, and Franklin Halliburton. Soloists will be accompanied by first-rate musician Livingston Burnett on piano and organ.

50th anniversary celebrations

The choir, which has received international acclaim for its choral work, solo voices, interesting Caribbean arrangements and compositions, will launch this September, its 50th anniversary celebrations.

The event is a family affair most suited for this Easter season. Tickets are on sale at The Music Mart and Monarch Pharmacy.
