FLAIR MAIL BAG - Vulgarity galore
published: Monday | April 2, 2007

We are bombarded on every side by nudity, vulgarity and indiscipline.

There is currently a poster advertising a dance on Good Friday, April 6, where the main attractions will be the 'Buffest Buff' and 'Stiffest Breast' competitions, which raises the question, have we gone completely mad?

This is certainly exploitation of the female body in the crudest way! Moreover, when did we become so secular that we keep dances on Christmas Day and Good Friday? These are traditionally the most important days on the Christian calendar.

Without a doubt, several young women are already preparing to participate in this and similar types of competitions.

Banned

We are calling upon the Prime Minister to investigate the regulations by which our local government authorities issue licenses for parties. We urge all governing authorities to ensure that licenses be awarded in keeping with our laws regarding indecent exposure. All events that promote indecent exposure should be banned immediately. This is one measure that could be immediately implemented. It is becoming clear that the re-socialisation of society is obviously a much more complicated process.

The local and national authorities are well aware that our current social and economic problems are all interrelated.

We are therefore calling on the Government, the mayors and their councillors, as well as the Commissioner of Police, to be more vigilant in monitoring these types of dances and events, especially those where such sexually-exploitative activities take place.

We are further calling on all conscientious men and women to support this effort. In the recent words of the Bureau of Women's Affairs, seeking a change in attitudes regarding violent and exploitative behaviour towards women and children, "The time to start is now".
