Hubert H Humphrey Fellowship Programme

The U.S. Embassy's Office of Public Affairs (OPA), Kingston, invites Jamaican professionals to submit applications for the 2008/2009 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Programme.

The all-expense paid one-year fellowship does not lead to a degree but allows mid-career professionals to spend a year at a U.S. university pursuing an individually-tailored study programme and interacting with fellow professionals from the U.S. and across the globe.

One of the goals of the programme is to provide participants with the opportunity to develop lasting productive ties among their professional counterparts in the U.S. and other countries.

Jamaican Humphrey Fellows are nominated by the U.S. Embassy's O PA in Kingston, based on their potential for national leadership.

Fields covered

The fellowship is generally awarded to persons who are com-mitted to public service, whether in the private or public sector, in:

Communication/journalism,

Natural resources,

Environmental management, public policy analysis,

Public administration,

Economic development,

Agricultural development

Agricultural economics, finance and banking,

Human resource management,

Law and human rights,

Trafficking in persons,

Urban and regional planning,

HIV/AIDS policy and prevention,

Public health,

Policy and management (including drug addiction, treatment and prevention),

Technology policy and management, and educational planning and administration.

An additional substance abuse component in the field of public health policy and management emphasises drug education, treatment, and prevention.

Completed application forms, along with supporting documents, must be submitted in hard copy to Mrs. Angella Harvey, Cultural Affairs Specialist, OPA, U.S. Embassy, 142 Old Hope Road, Kingston 6, by July 20.
