The Editor, Sir:
It is distressing to note that many of our youth are unemployed with not much hope for future employment. Countries are requiring visas for our people who normallyventure forth to try to earn a living to help themselves and their families.
We are aware that most countries are wary of the Jamaican because they think that we are all coming into their countries to kill and steal.
I wonder if they have ever done a survey that would in all probability evince the fact that less than 1/2 per cent of Jamaicans are malefactors. Jamaicans are normally hardworking, ambitious, and proud people.
Outstanding Jamaican achievers
The many outstanding Jamaican achievers belie the challenges of the ones who are really looking for fast and easy money. These are found in every society!
Good governance demands that our people should not have to be forced to be seeking handouts of visas because this country cannot offer them employment at a rate that they can have more than the basic necessities of life. There is something very wrong with our system, and this has to be addressed immediately.
