Jamaica U-15s fall to T&T
published: Thursday | April 5, 2007

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad:

HOSTS TRINIDAD and Tobago defeated defending champions Jamaica by 79 runs in the second round of the CLICO West Indies Under-15 tournament yesterday.

Meanwhile, the Windward Islands and Barbados completed their second wins in a row to sit on top of the standings. The Windward Islands crushed Guyana by 87 runs, and Barbados dominated the Leeward Islands for a six-wicket victory.

T&T registered their first victory of the tournament with a comfortable triumph over Jamaica at Syne Village in Penal.

Beaten in their first match by the Windward Islands, the local team, with Yannic Cariah at the helm, rebounded well with a workmanlike victory against the Jamaicans before a large crowd in south Trinidad.

First strike

Taking first strike, T&T were restricted to 179 for nine from the allotted 50 overs, with all-rounder Sachin Boodram top scoring with a solid 61, which included six fours and one six.

Wicketkeeper/batsman Rixon Mannieram gave good support with an exciting 52 that contained seven boundaries.

Dameon Reid was the top bowler for the Jamaicans with four for 36.

The Jamaicans, in pursuit of their victory target, were thwarted by a good all-round display in the field from their opponents, and went down without a serious fight for a disappointing total of 100 in 40.2 overs.

Mannieram, who figured in four stumpings in addition to his half-century, picked up the Player of the Match award.

At the Diamond Recreation Ground, the Windwards batted first and compiled a competitive 171 all out from 47 overs, with Kaven Hodge top scoring with a fluent 42.

In response, the Guyanese failed to come to terms with the probing swing of right-arm medium pacer Durani Charles and were skittled out for 84 in 32.4 overs.
