ACS are kings of the hill
published: Thursday | April 5, 2007

WESTERN BUREAU:

ACS CONFIRMED their position as the St. James FA/ Sandals Division One League champions on Tuesday afternoon when they ended the season with an emphatic 3-0 blanking of Glendevon FC at the UDC field in Montego Bay.

The ACS team, which ended the season with 58 points, were presented with the coveted championship trophy at the end of the game. Craig Cooper, Lancelot Pessoa and Kirk Patterson were the players who breached Glendevon's defence.

"We could not have ended the season in a better way," said Pessoa, whose team has now earned the right to compete in the St. James Hart and Son Senior League next season. "It was a great season and we are happy that we emerged champions."

In a game which was generally lacking excitement, the ACS team signalled its intentions to dominate in the fifth minute when Copper pounced on a cross in front of the Glendevon goal and fired home easily.

Dominance

ACS continued to dominate but had difficulty adding to their lead. For their part, Glendevon looked good at times coming out of midfield but they were plagued by a lack of cohesiveness in attack, as many promising breaks came to nothing.

With time ticking away in the half, ACS doubled their lead in the 42nd minute. In a stinging attack originating on the right flank, Pessoa ran on to a superb cross and made no mistake driving his shot into the roof of the net to make the half-time score 2-0.

In the second half, ACS continued to look the better team and just missed widening their lead in the 51st minute. Patterson broke free on the edge of the penalty area but, with the goalkeeper advancing, he slotted his effort wide of the goal.
