'Progress in malaria control' - Minister expects non-endemic declaration soon; pushes for improved systems on World Health Day
Government is expecting Jamaica to, in short order, be once again declared a non-endemic country for malaria, according to Health Minister Horace Dalley. Minister Dalley told Parliament's Standing Finance Committee this week that a team from the United States-based Centres for Disease Control would be arriving in Jamaica within two weeks to assess the country's response to the recent malaria outbreak.

Mandeville chapter of environmental group launched
The Jamaica Institute of Environmental Professionals (JIEP) has extended its islandwide reach with the establishment of its first 'Regional Focal Point' in Mandeville. The JIEP, a professional association formed in 2002 for qualified persons working in the environmental field, includes among its membership natural scientists, engineers, consultants, social scientists, lawyers, educators and economists.
