THE EDITOR, Sir:It is a known fact that children live what they learn. The living institution is not only made up of the classroom of the home, but many others.
The literature plus sightseeing they are exposed to daily, travelling to and from school, have the greatest living reflection. The couple hours before and after school which may have parental interaction, depending on the average parent's working schedule, cannot only consist of outlining rules and regulations.
Recreational facilities
The solution is recreational facilities with after-school activities. Let us predict their choices of procrastination by creating within secured places (the churches) the ideal pastime.
After most children leave school in the afternoon, where do most go? Let us give them somewhere to go; let it be mandatory that this is where you ought to be after school if the home has no provision. Look around and count the after-school programmes that exist within your community. Look again and count the number of 'corners' there where children are facilitated, just chilling.
Let us give them a of a different kind of literature and sightseeing, that will facilitate their mental and physical attributes for future leadership.
I am, etc.,
