Police set for crown, NPL play-off spot
published: Saturday | April 7, 2007

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

It would take a miracle for leaders Police National not to secure themselves an opportunity for a promotional bid to the top tier of local football, when they close out the Jamaica National/KSAFA Super League fixtures against Greenwich Town at Duhaney Park today.

On 46 points the lawmen have their destiny in their own hands and seemwell poised to achieve their goal of taking part in the premier league play-offs. Three points ahead of second place Meadhaven, they need just a draw against relegation threatened Greenwich Town who are in 11th place on 18 points.

Even in the unlikely event that Police lose the game, which can never be counted out with Greenwich Town fighting to keep their place in the Super League lives, Meadhaven would have to win their fixture by a large margin. However, Meadhaven will travel to the Barbican Complex for their final encounter and with Barbican already relegated, Police National can leave nothing to chance.

Other games

In the day's other games the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) have seen their chances extinguished and will not have a whole lot to play for when they face 10th place Mountain View at Up Park Camp. Mountain View on the other hand cannot afford a loss as on 19 points they are far from the comfort zone.

Maverley/Hughenden will be entertaining similar survival thoughts when they host fifth place Bull Bay (31) at the Maverley Complex as on 20 points they can still be overtaken by Greenwich Town, should they secure a win against Police National.

In two other fixtures of academic interest, Santos will host Duhaney Park at the Bell-Chung Oval and Constant Spring will play Cavalier at the Constant Spring Complex.
