New Dominican DPP to take up position
published: Monday | April 9, 2007

ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC):

Attorney-General Ian Douglas has confirmed that Gene Pestaina will take up the post of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) after several months of delay.

He will replace Bryma Kebbie who left the job following public concerns that he had 'lost' six consecutive murder cases. Kebbie, a native of Sierra Leone, was assigned to Dominica just over two years ago through the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Assistance.

The recommendation to appoint Pestaina is to go before the Public Service Commission and the president for final approval.

Pestaina, who once held the office of DPP here, left to take up the same office in Antigua in 2004 but returned home last December just after the office became vacant in August with the departure of Kebbie.
