Toll road increase
published: Wednesday | April 11, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

With the advent of the toll road at Bushy Park, some were very happy to rid themselves of the torture of going through the township of Old Harbour.

However, the consistent increase of the rates payable, coupled with the frequent increases of the price of petrol, will remove the benefits of the toll road to the ordinary person and more people will, of necessity have to opt to go back through Old Harbour. This is more so for those individuals who have to journey to Kingston and back on a regular basis.

This will not bode well for our economy, as more productive time will be lost and our fuel bill will continue to increase. I urge the powers that be to take into consideration what the cost of the increase in the toll will have on the ordinary motorist, rather than the increased profit that is being sought and anticipated.

I am, etc.,

A.A. McCREATH
