Former Gleaner entertainment editor found dead at home
published: Thursday | April 12, 2007

The decomposing body of Justin White, choirmaster at the Glenmuir High School and former entertainment editor at the Gleaner Company, was found at his Violet Avenue home in Mona, St. Andrew, yesterday.

The 60-year-old was last seen alive on Sunday. The foul stench emanating from White's house was reportedly what aroused residents' suspicions, and they eventually called the police. The police arrived at the house about 11:55 a.m. and were also greeted by the unpleasant odour. After seeking help from the fire brigade to remove the locks in order to gain entry to the premises, White's body was found in a bedroom at the back of the house with a gunshot wound to the right side of his face.

Items missing

A television, component set and a grey Mitsubishi Galant, belonging to White, are believed to be missing. White reportedly lived alone but tenants also shared the house.

When The Gleaner went to the scene, a pungent odour filled the air. Curious residents stood at their gates watching the events unfold while offering their own theories as to what had happened. One such resident told The Gleaner: "I don't really know much about him, but I heard that he's been dead for about two days. I jus' see him a few times going in and out - a tall man with bald head and him wear earrings."

The police have so far identified no leads, suspects or motives. White's body was buried yesterday because of the advanced state of decomposition.

The Half-Way Tree CIB is conducting investigations.
