Dualisation mess
published: Thursday | April 12, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

I read with much dismay the article 'Private sector to raise money for Montego Bay road project'. I said dismay because if the parish council, along with other Government approving agency, had done their job well, they would have required Mr. Kerr-Jarrett to upgrade the road as part of the approval to build the estimated 500 new homes in the area to which my friend Mr. Peterkin alluded.

In approving the project the Government should know that traffic would become a problem. This has been my contention with this Government for the many years that they are in office. They suffer from myopia and are never able to think out of the box.

Mr. Kerr-Jarrett should pay for the dualisation of the Bogue road because it is quite obvious that his project, on which he must have made a healthy profit, is contributing to this mess. I have experienced it personally. The Government must wise up and let developers carry their fair share of the public cost.

I am, etc.,
