Artistes must stop sending wrong message
published: Thursday | April 12, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

It is full time that the Jamaican public send a message to some of our so-called music entertainers who believe that they are free to do whatever they want and be accepted. Many of us have never and will never buy any of their music because they are a curse upon our children with the message they are presenting.

If it is a fact that Bounty Killer and Movado went on stage bigging up the 'Stone Crusher' gang, who have been terrorists in the life of Montegonians and others, then these so-called entertainers should feel it where it hurts most.

Their managers should fire them, all recording and advertising contracts should be immediately cancelled, all promoters should drop them from all shows and tours, and we the public should turn our backs on their music and demand an apology, and if that is not given forthwith and clearly, then that's it for their career.

We need to rescue our generation from these wolves in sheep's clothing, worming their way into the minds of the younger generation through their twisted lyrics.

Many times weblame governments for what we can do ourselves. Wherever crime and immorality is esteemed in public by any of our artistes, aim at the bulls-eye where they feel it most. We have the power; without us they cannot prosper. Crush the criminals and their allies, whoever they are.

I am, etc.,

MIKEY D.

St. Ann, Jamaica
