RORY JARDINE emerged overall champion of the Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) Easter Weekend Classic held at the SuperClubs Golf Club in Runaway Bay, St. Ann.
Jardine defeated Wesley Brown on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to lift the 36-hole event's top trophy.
Damion Spencer and Jardine played strongly to capture the top prizes in the Men's 0-5 and 6-10 handicap categories respectively. However, Brown, playing impressively as a Junior, equalled Jardine's low gross of 150 in the 6-10 handicap category, hence the playoff for the overall trophy. In the 0-5 category, Spencer (152) came into the second day with the lead and, despite a strong challenge from Mark Blakeley (152), finished on top by having a better back nine.
Jardine (150) held the lead from start to finish in his category (6-10), which also saw solid play from Greg Chong (158) and Carl Bruce (159). In the Ladies category, Leiza Blakeley took the first-place trophy while Joan Josephs took the Ladies Senior category.
Played strong
The 0-10 Men's Senior category winner, Lincoln Williams (161), played strong on day two to maintain his lead and walk away with the trophy.
In the 11-36 Men's Senior division, Larry Stewart (69 points) came from behind to edge out Khaleel Azan (69) with a better back nine on the second day. In the Men's 0-10 Super Senior category, Dennis Atkinson (148) maintained his Order of Merit dominance by topping JGA president Gordon Hutchinson (157). The Men's 11-36 Super Senior category saw Tony Wright (75) emerge with the first-place trophy.
The Junior Category also saw a thrilling finish as Brown (76) came into the final day tied with Gavin Shelley (76). Brown then shot a 74 to finish with 150 to edge out Shelley's 156. Other winners in the Junior Category included Geoffery Chong (14-15), Johnathan Newnham (13 & under), Zainab James (13 & under) and Isabelle Marley (14-15).
