Nicholson Carla Nicholson, a medical student in the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus was awarded a special bursary by the Bustamante Foundation Scholarship Committee for 2006/2007.

Special bursary
Funds for this special bursary to Ms. Nicholson were provided by an anonymous donor in tribute to the late Allan and Ruby Wynter, who were life-long friends of Sir Alexander and Lady Bustamante. Allan Wynter and Frank Pixley, both attorneys-at-law, played a significant role in the release of Sir Alexander from detention at Up Park Camp in 1942. Ruby Wynter sent his main meal daily to Bustamante, while he was in detention, and she had a canvas cot made to accommodate his tall stature. The cot provided by soldiers was inadequate.
Office space was given to the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) at Allan Wynter's legal chambers at 30 Duke Street, Kingston, the BITU's first headquarters. Allan and Ruby Wynter greatly admired the work Bustamante was doing for the disadvantaged in Jamaica.
Ms. Nicholson, a third year student, lists her hobbies as reading, listening to music, and helping others, especially the elderly in her community.
Since 1970, some 61 scholarships and bursaries in the field of law, medicine and dentistry have been awarded by the Foundation. Of this number, 22 doctors are still practising in the government sector in Jamaica.
