Title beckons for Harbour View
published: Wednesday | April 18, 2007

Nodley Wright, Freelance Writer

FANS OF Harbour View could not have asked for a better game to formalise their win in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League than the one they will get this afternoon when the frontrunners go up against already relegated Naggo Head.

The defending champions have gone some way in dispelling the myth propagated last year that they are chokers. After leading the league for most of last season - and by as many as 13 points, the 'Stars of the East' fell away badly thus allowing eventual champions Waterhouse to take advantage.

Coach Lenworth Hyde has impressed upon his players the importance of winning all their remaining matches and they have been doing just that. In their last encounter, they gave Seba United of Montego Bay a fine whipping, sending them home 5-0 with Kavin Bryan scoring twice.

Naggo Head's coach, Wayne Fairclough, all but conceded on Sunday following their loss to Village United that there was not much left in the season for them. While they have been written off as relegation certainties for most of the season, Naggo Head never played as if they were facing certain doom. They always showed a competitive spiritand even though their downward slide is confirmed, they are not expected to change their approach - especially with captain Layton Barrett and Denton Shedden pulling the strings.

Back into the groove

These two though will need a lot of help if they are to stave off the expected assault from the Harbour View front line led by Fabian Taylor, Bryan and Greg Taylor. With Jermaine Hue now getting back into the groove, passes from the midfield will not be a scarcity. What could also make Naggo Head's job tougher is that Harbour View should be in even better shape today with the return of captain Lovel Palmer.

At Catherine Hall, Reno should continue their recovery as they play away to Seba United. Seba United, on the other hand, will be attempting to end their run of continuous defeats at two. Arnett Gardens will not want to lose a second game in succession when they take the short trip down Collie Smith Drive to take on neighbours Boys' Town. Boys' Town also lost on Sunday and will be playing for a change of fortunes.

August Town have already claimed a number of top scalps in the league and would want to add that of Tivoli to the list, while the Waterhouse/Portmore United match could go either way. Based on the form and mood in the Waterhouse camp, I would give Portmore the edge.
