LETTER OF THE DAY - Church, it's time to bawl out!
published: Thursday | April 19, 2007

The Editor, Sir:

I support wholeheartedly the call by Reverend Al Miller of the Fellowship Tabernacle, for churchgoers to vote for politicians who are in support of good traditional Christian values. There is a negative spirit building up in this country and the devil is trying his best to perpetuate the negativity. However, I will challenge Rev. Al and all the religious leaders to be vocal and to pray against corruption in government!

Homosexuality and abortion are two very evil things that must be avoided. The Church should pray that no candidate who is attached to either one of these by virtue of personal support is elected to office.

Blatant cost overruns

The Church for too long has allowed the Government to get away with blatant cost overruns; it has not done enough to hold the government to account for its failure to create jobs. Jamaica is performing badly and our reputation has suffered under this government. Any politician who is elected should do his or her utmost to fight against these things and all politicians should publish as much as possible (individually) their position on homosexuality, abortion, and how they intend to fight crime and increase jobs in their community.

It is time that some serious constitutional reform takes place in order to ensure that the system of government is accountable, not only to those in power, but to all people. Therefore, the Church should pray that the group of politicians which is elected takes this position of constitutional reformvery seriously because it is good discipline for the political process and the nation.

Sunshine again

It can be sunshine in Jamaica again instead of the dark clouds of doom and gloom which hover above our heads because of this Government's dismal and shameful performance! However, we must take the performance of the Government into account, for it is the Government that God has given the opportunity to improve the state of the nation. They have failed and the high crime rate and the high murder rate and the fact that over 600,000 Jamaicans do not have a job is very bad, and a reflection of the stewardship of this government.

Despite all the recent hurrah, nothing has changed! Church, it is time to ban yuh belly and bawl, fast and pray and live exemplary lives and inspire the nation to righteousness. If not, 'den a wha we de yah fah'?

I am, etc.,
