DESPITE ALREADY surrendering the crown this season, new man at the helm for Waterhouse, Anthony Patrick, is determined to finish the season on a high note with at least a couple of wins in the remaining three games.
"We want to finish on a high. We have to keep working, we definitely need to get the finishing right and our target will be to win the last three games," Patrick said after a 1-1 draw with Portmore United at the Waterhouse Stadium, on Wednesday night.
A late header by midfielder Sean Coleman not only saw the Drewsland team pull level after going behind in the 53rd minute, but end Portmore United's title hopes. Coleman crashed into the area to head a 83rd-minute Irvino English corner high into the roof of the net, past a rooted Portmore 'keeper', Shawn Sawyers, from no more more than six yards away.
Needing to win
Needing to win the game to at least keep the mathematical possibility of catching now Premier League champions Harbour View alive, Portmore had charged into the lead when Oneil McDonald blasted over the head of Waterhouse custodian, Richard McCallum, from close range.
McCallum had done well to stop a Wolry Wolfe scorcher hit from an acute angle on a Portmore counter attack, but the ball had only ended up on the boot of McDonald.
Before that, Waterhouse found themselves with an excellent opportunity to score, but an attempted far-post curl by striker Norado Brown went straight to Sawyers.
The result was a disappointing one for Portmore coach Linval Dixon, but while taking the time out to congratulate winner, Harbour View, he realised the battle for second place was still a tight one.
"Second place is still pretty much up for grabs, it's important that we get it and we are going to fight for it," Dixon said. "Congra-tulations to the Harbour View coaching staff, management team and players, they have really worked hard for the title."
