Sylvester Campbell, coach of defending champions Tivoli Compressors, said he is very confident that his team will retain this year's Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Jamaica Public Service (JPS) league title, following his team's 50-16 thrashing of arch rivals Arnett Gardens Transformers in the quarter-finals on Sunday at the Leila Robinson Courts.
"Once we continue to play hard and consistent netball we should win this competition," said Campbell. "We have retained the same team that won last year's competition, which still possesses a lot of quality and depth, so with this I think we should be able to win this year's competition."
In a one-sided affair, Tivoli Compressor dominated the game from the opening whistle and never looked back. They led 23-10 at the half-time break, then outscored their opponents 13-2 in the third quarter for a 36-12 lead at the end of the period.
Received good support
Cleopatra Grant led the way for the Tivoli Compressors with 18 goals from 24 attempts and received good support from Patricia Chambers with 10 goals from 12 tries.
Trudith Reid, with 14 goals from 17 attempts and Tracy Brown, two goals from seven attempts, were the scorers for Arnett Gardens Transformers.
In the day's other quarter-finals matches, Port Esquivel Power Barge defeated Hanover Generators 40-21, Alexander Electric Parks edged St. James Turbines 25-24 and May Pen Steam Generator beat Eden Switches 44-20.
Tivoli Compressors will now face Port Esquivel Power Barge in one of Sunday's semi-finals, while Alexander Electric Parks will meet May Pen Steam Generator in the other semi-final.
