Seba won 2-0. - photo by Adrian Frater PORTMORE UNITED officially claimed the Wray and Nephew National Premier League runners-up spot following a 1-0 win over Boys' Town at the Collie Smith ground yesterday.
Reno, who began the day just two points adrift of the St. Catherine team, fell out of contention following a 3-0 pounding by Village United at the Elliston Wakeland Centre. With just one game remaining, Portmore United are an unassailable five points ahead of the Westmore-land team. Striker Kevin Deerr netted the all-important goal for the former champions in the 40th minute.
Despite a 3-2 loss to red-hot August Town at Barbican, dethroned champions Water-house held on to fourth place following Seba's 2-0 win over Tivoli Gardens.
Lovely free kick
Ross Burton put August Town ahead in the 17th minute before a lovely free kick by prize acquisition Daniel Shaw put them even further ahead in the 40th. League leading scorer Irvino English took his tally to 17 when he netted in the 47th minute and Brian Wollaston brought things level with a 65th-minute strike.
However, Wollaston would cancel out his effort as, attempting to clear a ball whipped across the Waterhouse penalty box, he ended up heading powerfully past his own custodian, Maurice Evans.
At Catherine Hall, numerous chances were squandered by both teams before Seba United, who remain in 10th place despite moving up to 33 points, got a goal in each half through the prolific Ricardo Geddes (18th) and substitute Omar Reid (85th).
At Ferdie Neita Park, demoted Naggo Head made good on their promise of exiting the league in style, clipping an embarrassed-looking Arnett Gardens 1-0.
Kingston College schoolboy Christopher Allen scored his second goal in as many games, a deflected shot after nine minutes, to hand Naggo Head their fifth win of the season.
With one game left to play in the Premiership - at Tivoli Gardens this Sunday - Naggo Head's win moved them to 21 points, two off fellow relegated team, Wadadah, who were down to play champions Harbour View in the late game last night at Compound.
