Irvino English headed home from a freekick in the 72nd minute to seal the leading goalscorer title and pushed Waterhouse to a comfortable 3-0 win over Boys' Town at Drewsland yesterday.

English, who started the season at left back before moving to midfield, played as a striker for the entire 90 minutes in his quest to top the goalscoring chart.

English who ended on 18 goals finished ahead of Kavin Bryan on 17, and will walk away with the $25,000 cash incentive.

He entered the final round of the Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) with 17 goals and was closely followed by Harbour View's Kavin Bryan and Fabian Taylor on 16 and 14 respectively with Reno's Ricardo Scott also on 14.

But things wouldn't go his way as he was closely marshalled by Richie Francis throughout and a frustrating evening seems in store.

But with news filtering through the Waterhouse Mini-Stadium that Kavin Bryan had scored for Harbour View, English stepped up the pace.

He was taking every freekick, even from just below the half line, running off the ball intelligently to create space and it was no surprise when he got on the score sheet.

Left unmarked

For the first time in the game English was left unmarked and he duly 'ghosted' in to nod home from close range before flicking off his jersey to celebrate with his fans while earning a yellow card in the process.

English who banged in five goals as Waterhouse dismantled Wadadah 9-2 last week, remarkably outscored a host of strikers.

"I wanted to score 15 goals from midfield because personally that would be a good achievement for me and I think it would help the club, but personally I wasn't thinking about the leading goalscorer," said English.

But English said he was kept inform about what was transpiring with Kavin Bryan throughout the game and was told he had scored.

When quizzed if he'll now move from being a midfielder to a forward position, he said, "I am still a midfielder".

Andre Hickling had given the home team a 24th minute lead. He collected a pass from Vincent Earle before firing home from just inside the box. Sean Coleman sidefooted home after a neat build up.

Waterhouse, the dethroned champions, secured their 13th win of the season to finish fourth on 52 points, some 22 points behind the winners Harbour View.
