C&WJ loses financial officer
published: Wednesday | May 2, 2007

Mark Thompson resigned his position as chief financial officer effective Monday after 18 months with C&W Jamaica.

Cable and Wireless Jamaica (C&WJ) has lost its chief financial officer Mark Thompson, a year and a half after he first joined the telecom.

C&WJ said Thompson leftto pursue "other opportunities", which insiders say is reference to his being offered participation in a venture that apparently "was too good to pass up."

Thompson's resignation took effect Monday having guided the finance division capably through the transition that C&WJ is undertaking to enhance its competitiveness in an increasingly crowded telecoms sector.

Acting cfo

The local company's finances will now be overseen by Jos Roncal, CFO for C&W Caribbean and the Americas, who is acting in the position until a replacement is found.

The position is yet to be advertised and no replacement has been earmarked from inside or outside the C&W group, Wednesday Business was advised.

Thompson came to C&WJ in October 2005 on a transfer from C&W's Northern Caribbean regional officer where he also held the position of CFO.

Seven months later, he was appointed director of the board of C&WJ at the company's annual general meeting in May 2006.

Prior to joining Cable and Wireless, Thompson worked with World Gaming Plc as vice-president of finance and operations director. He was once director of finance for MGI Software Corporation, a publicly traded software company based in Toronto, Canada, and was also manager at KPMG Finance Inc. in Toronto.
