Red Stripe losing two managers to new Diageo postings
published: Wednesday | May 2, 2007

( L - R ) Turnbull and Gallagher

Two of Red Stripe's senior managers have been promoted by parent company Diageo and are to be shipped to separate countries to take up new postings in the group.

Wednesday Business understands that Red Stripe's financial director, Lawrence Turnbull, heads to Nigeria as commercial director for Guinness plc while supply director Paul Gallagher has been appointed senior vice-president of manufacturing and will be posted in the United States.

The appointments were made in the last week and the new appointees are expected to uproot from Red Stripe to take up their new posts in the next few weeks.

When contacted, Red Stripe officials would not comment prior to a notification to the Jamaica Stock Exchange.

Wednesday Business has also learned that the company is currently recruiting replacements within the Diageo group for the two talents, and that a replacement for Gallagher has already been identified.

Red Stripe's annual turnover tops $10 billion mostly on sales, and its profits rise above $2 billion.

The company, with assets of more than $7 billion, has a stock market value of over $22 billion.

Red Stripe formerly traded under the name Desnoes & Geddes (D&G), when it was substantially Jamaican owned, but that changed four years ago after its acquisition by British food and drink company Diageo.
